About Deputy Kurt B. Wyman

Deputy Kurt B. WymanOn June 7, 2011 Deputy Kurt B. Wyman of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office in Oriskany, N.Y., was shot and killed while on duty at a domestic dispute. Kurt began his career in law enforcement when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He went on to serve, with distinction, in Iraq from September 2008 to April 2009.

While in Iraq, Kurt earned several honors, including the Iraqi Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. In October 2007, Kurt joined the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and was assigned to road patrol. During his time as a Deputy Sheriff, Kurt continually demonstrated his commitment to law enforcement, earning the Grand Cordon Medal twice and being named the 2010 Rookie of the Year. When Kurt was killed he was 24 years old. Kurt leaves behind his wife Lauren Wyman and two children.

We invite the 233,000 residents of Oneida County as well as all of the residents of neighboring counties to invest in the Deputy Kurt B. Wyman Park project with donations of cash, multi-year pledges, appreciated securities, legacy donations, memorials and other gifts. Benefactors, those who contribute $1,000 or more, will receive prominent recognition in the facility. A limited number of naming opportunities are available for which donors will receive heightened recognition. All gifts are tax deductible to full extent allowed by law.
